Senate of Uzbekistan holds fourth plenary session
On May 11, 2020, Tashkent hosted the fourth plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by members of the government, heads of ministries and agencies, media representatives.
The plenary session, held via videoconference, was chaired by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva.
At the plenary session, members of the Senate discussed 20 issues, including 10 laws.
Senate members discussed the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On establishment of “Salomatlik” (Health) order”, “On establishment of “Soglom Turmush” (Healthy Lifestyle) medal”, “On establishment of the order “Fakhriy Murabbiy” (Honorary Coach), “On introducing amendments and addenda to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the State Budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2020”, “On introducing amendments and addenda to the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at strengthening the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens participating in the criminal process” and others.
Senators also considered the issue of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
As previously reported, the materials presented by the Cabinet of Ministers, based on in-depth analysis, were discussed at meetings of the Senate committees and ad hoc working groups with participation of leading experts and specialists.
Participation of Uzbekistan in the EAEU as an observer state will provide an opportunity to be informed about the work carried out within the framework of this organization and, as a result of the analysis, make the right conclusion.
Senators, who did not support cooperation with this organization, expressed an opinion on its possible consequences: a decrease in production rate in a number of sectors of the economy, loss of jobs to a certain extent, a slowdown in the investment process and industrial modernization.
Following the discussion, the senators approved the proposal for participation of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the EAEU as an observer state.
An appropriate resolution of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis has been adopted on this issue.
Senate members approved the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to radically update the state policy in economic development and poverty reduction”.
